Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Thanksgiving tradition continues today at the Rochester Salvation Army.

The staff and many volunteers will be busy this morning preparing a traditional Thanksgiving Day meal that will be served later today to anyone in need of nourishment or fellowship on the holiday.

The free turkey dinner includes stuffing, potatoes, pie and more.

It will be served from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM at the Salvation Army Social Services Center. The address is 115 1st Avenue Northeast.

Today's holiday events in Rochester also include the 8th annual Rochester Turkey Trot 5K Run and Walk. It's a Fundraiser for Red Drop Resources, which supports people impacted by leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and other blood cancers while they are in Rochester receiving care.

It'll take place at Soldiers Field Memorial Park and begins with packet pickup at 7:30 AM. The Kids Dash starts at 8:45 AM and the 5K begins at 9 AM.

The extended weekend festivities also include another long time Rochester tradition. The "Here Comes Santa Claus" event will take place in downtown Rochester on Friday from 2-5 PM. It includes the annual rescue of Santa from the roof of Old City Hall and holiday tree lighting ceremony at the Peace Plaza.
