Rochester School Board to Vote on New Superintendent Contract
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester School Board is poised to approve a new employment contract with the school district's Superintendent.
The agenda for Tuesday's regular meeting of the school board includes a request to act on a resolution to approve a three-year contract with Superintendent Kent Pekel that would be in force from July 1 next year through the end of June in 2028. Pekel came to the Rochester Public Schools as an interim Superintendent in 2021 and accepted the position on a permanent basis the following year.
The school board entered into negotiations on a new contract with Pekel back in July. Since then, school district voters voted strongly in favor of a $20 million per year operating levy to support the Rochester Public Schools.
According to the resolution, the new employment contract would increase Pekel's annual salary to $242,000 for the first year, followed by $10,000 increases in each of the next two years. The compensation package also includes a tax-sheltered annuity with a matching contribution and a monthly automobile allowance.
