Rochester School Buses Get Stop Arm Cameras

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - More than 100 school buses used to transport students in the Rochester School District are now equipped with technology aimed at deterring motorists from driving past school bus stop arms.
A $300,000 state grant has allowed First Student to install stop-arm cameras on the school buses. The cameras are designed to photograph drivers and their vehicles when a violation of the state's school bus stop arm law.
The law requires all vehicles to stop for school buses when the bus driver activates the flashing red warning lights and has the stop arm fully extended. It also states that vehicles must stop at least 20 feet from a school bus and must remain stopped until the bus driver retracts the stop arm and turns off the warning lights.
A violation carries a fine of up to $500.
