Rochester Seeking Public Input on New Splash Pad
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Rochester officials are asking for the public’s thoughts on a splash pad and other upgrades involving a park in southeast Rochester.
The McQuillan Park splash pad is set to go in at the former Longfellow Elementary site. Rochester Parks and Recreation officials say the splash pad will be between 2,000 and 3,000 square feet and will include “a number of water play elements.”
The project also calls for the addition of accessible sidewalks, restrooms, benches and shade elements. The splash pad project’s current cost is estimated at $615,000 and will be paid for through the Rochester’s park referendum that was approved by voters in 2020. Officials are also hoping to get project funding through a state grant.
We are excited to bring this project forward. As construction comes to a close on the first splash pad at Lincolnshire Park, we will begin this work at McQuillan, said Director of the Parks & Recreation Department Paul Widman. “This is a great example of the positive impact the park referendum is having on our ability to deliver amenities and improvements to the community.
Rochester residents interested in providing feedback on the project are encouraged to take an online survey, which is open until March 21. Park and Rec officials will hold two virtual open houses held via Teams on March 22 from Noon-1:00 p.m. and from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
An in-person open house is also planned for March 28 at the new Longfellow Elementary School from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2024 and the splash pad is set to open in 2025.
