Rochester Teenager Receives National Award For Heroism
Washington, DC (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester teenager is among the six recipients this year of a national citizen's award bestowed by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society.
Cody Runyon was 13-years- old when he came to the rescue of an 11-year-old friend who nearly drowned during the summer of 2018. He is being honored with the 2020 Citizens Honors Young Hero Award for pulling the other young swimmer from the bottom of a swimming pool at a Rochester apartment complex. The news release from the Congressional Medal of Honor Society says Cody noticed his friend had become unresponsive and reacted quickly, preventing further tragedy.
The annual awards recognize citizens for courage, sacrifice, commitment, integrity, citizenship, and patriotism. Unfortunately, the award ceremony for this year's Honorees has been put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Cody was honored last year with a Citizens Life Saving Award during the Rochester Police Department’s annual awards ceremony.
