Things About Living in Rochester That Only Locals Understand
No matter where you live, there are always going to be certain things that only the people who live there will 100% understand. It could be a saying, a hole in the wall, or something about the place in general.
Rochester, Minnesota is no exception. There are PLENTY of things about Rochester that you just wouldn't understand unless you're a local.

What it's Like to Live in Rochester, MN
I've lived in Rochester for 5 years now, and I think at this point I'd consider myself a local. But early on in living here, there were plenty of things that I didn't understand that only locals got. I'll share one in particular with you in a second.
I wanted to get a big list of things about living in Rochester that only locals understand, so I asked for your input on Facebook. It can be funny, but it also kind of gives this sense of community in a way.
I'll start with the one I alluded to earlier:
It's a big small town.
When I heard that when I first moved here, I was like, guys, this is the 3rd largest city in the state, what do you mean? Are you just stuck on the fact that Rochester used to be a small town?
No! I get it now! Now that I've been here long enough to meet a lot of people, it's so true. Yes, we may be a big city, but for some reason, you always end up running into the same people over and over again.
Oh, and everyone knows everyone for some reason. I don't know how that works in a city this size, but you just have to accept that fact.
Now let's get into a few others that I got from you!

How to correctly spell 'Olmsted'.
Second Street Joe
You have to add another 5 minutes to your drive if you're going down Silver Lake Dr. in case of goose crossing.
The Bunny Cake from Canadian Honker is the bomb.
The 'belt line'.
Waldo's had the best pizza.
The crows!
It's called 'Mayo', not 'The Mayo'.
The corn cob water tower.
Crusin' Broadway.
It may be a city, but it has a small-town feel.
Always under construction.
