Rochester Woman Sentenced For Arson and Vehicle Theft

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester woman has been sentenced to five years supervised probation for an arson conviction.

36-year-old Angela Spears entered a guilty plea to a second-degree arson charge in October. She also pleaded guilty to a felony vehicle theft charge, which also resulted in a sentence of five years on probation to be served concurrently with the sentence in the arson case.

She was arrested in June after Rochester police responded to a report of all fire in a condominium along Northern Hills Drive Northeast. The occupants of the residence were successful in using a fire extinguisher to put out the flames by the time police officers arrived.

Law officers were told that Spears had entered the condominium, gathered up some clothing items, which she used to create a pile on a bed before she started the pile on fire. It was also alleged that she used a bat to smash a mirror in the home.

Captain Moilanen says Spears was still at the property when police arrived at the scene and she was quickly taken into custody. The police report on the incident also noted a woman had previously been trespassed from the residence and was ordered to stay away from the property.
