OK, the headline is a little misleading. Aaron is in a program that has made a name change important in Rochester. Today, Crystal Heim, the Communications Coordinator  for Ability Building Community, is our guest blogger.

Just because Aaron has a disability doesn't mean he isn't just like you and me. Wondering what to do after high school, Aaron entered the Discovery and Customized Employment Program at ABC. There they helped him find out what his interests and skills were, then how to translate them into a job that would benefit an employer while earning him a paycheck! Customer service was it, and now he loves his job as a Food Demonstrator at Hy-Vee.

This is just one of the many ways that ABC is taking the next step into the future, one of the other important moves is their name change to Ability Building Community. 63 years ago ABC started with 3 staff and 15 individuals in a center based style, today they staff 235 and serve 747 individuals across 12 different programs.

Over 60% of what they do is in the community and that percentage will only continue to go up with them finding new and innovative ways to be more and more in the community celebrating abilities ONE person at a time.

ABC will hold a ribbon cutting celebrating their new name on December 17th at 3PM at the Rochester ABC facility.
