Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - It appears likely the reconstruction of North Broadway will be delayed another year.

The Rochester City Council voted unanimously Monday evening to approve a staff recommendation to reject the bids submitted for the project after all three proposals came well over budget. The city had estimated the two-year project would cost approximately $14.2 million and the lowest bid was about $5-million above that figure.

The staff recommendation also called for rebidding the project in hopes of a more favorable bidding environment the potential that federal pandemic funding might become available to help pay for the higher than expected cost. When asked if the project could still begin this year, city staff indicated it’s possible, but it’s more likely the process would require a delay until the next construction season.
