29 Horror Movies That Are Set in Minnesota

It's Spooky Season, one of my favorite times of the year! If you like watching scary movies, it's time to grab the popcorn and a blanket to hide under because there are actually quite a few horror movies that are set in Minnesota.

I didn't realize there were so many, but if you're into horror movies, you're set for the rest of the month!

Scary Movies Set in Minnesota

I found this list on the Minnesota Reddit. The user Geek-Haven888 shared that they had started creating a list of horror movies and categorizing them by the state they're set.

They mention that not all of the movies explicitly say that they are set in XYZ state, but based on context clues (like license plates or towns that are referenced), they determined the setting.

I love Halloween, but I'm not super big on really scary or gory movies, so I've only heard of one of these. Also, I was surprised to see a couple of really big names in some of these movies!

Geek-Haven888 originally shared the link to their list on Letterboxd in 2024. In the post, they mention that Minnesota was the setting for 17 horror movies. Well, obviously, the list has since been updated because there are 29 now!

Of course, just because they're set in Minnesota, it definitely doesn't mean they were filmed in Minnesota, which is sad. But it's still cool when any movie is set in our state.
