Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) -The detour signs and barricades on Highway 42 near Rochester were taken down just in time for the busy Labor Day weekend. The Minnesota Department of Transportation says the brand new roundabout at the intersection of Highway 42 and Olmsted County Road 9 was opened to traffic at 5 pm Friday.

Detours connected to the $1.8 million safety improvement project had been in place since May. A MnDOT release says addition work still needs to be done next to the roadway and crews will be present during the coming week, but the remaining tasks will not require traffic to be detoured.
