Suspicious Device Removed from Downtown Rochester by Bomb Squad (UPDATED)
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A bomb squad from St Paul was dispatched to downtown Rochester Wednesday evening to remove a suspicious object.
Rochester Police requested the assistance of the specialists after a suspicious device was found under a bench in front of Calvary Episcopal Church just west of the Mayo Clinic. Reports indicate the object appeared to include a battery with wires coming out of it and had been deliberately set in the location. It was removed around 9 PM and after being inspected by the bomb squad, it was deemed not dangerous.
A passerby alerted the police department after spotting the item just before 5 PM, which led police to close and search the church while also closing off 2nd Street between 3rd and 4th Avenues until the bomb squad arrived and removed it.
