Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A line of severe thunderstorms brought small hail and much-needed rain to Rochester and southeast Minnesota Saturday evening. 

The storm follows the latest update of the US drought monitor which indicated Rochester was among the driest areas in the state. Most of Olmsted County along with a pocket in the north Twin Cities metro and a pocket of central Minnesota were in an extreme drought as of Thursday’s update.

The National Weather Service’s 24-hour rainfall report indicates many communities in Olmsted County received at least an inch of rain Saturday. The totals measured in Rochester range from as low as 0.36 inches to as high as 1.32 inches. 

Over an inch of rain was reported at the Rochester Airport. Byron picked up the most rainfall in Olmsted County, coming in with 1.61 inches, according to the 24-hour report.

The recent rain may have provided the region’s vegetation with some much-needed hydration. The National Weather Service is forecasting a hot week with high temperatures predicted to reach the mid-90’s.
