Olmsted County Jury Returns Split Verdict for Racial Slur Incident at Rochester Playground

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- An Olmsted County Jury has returned a split verdict to end a high profile trial.

37-year-old Shiloh Marie Hendrix was charged with two misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct following a viral video taken at Soldiers Field Park in Rochester in April of 2025. 

The video is of her being confronted for calling a child a racial slur. She was then seen calling the man filming the video the same slur.

Shiloh Hendrix Found Guilty of One Disorderly Conduct Charge, Acquitted of Other Count

The former Rochester woman took her case to trial, which began on Monday. Both sides rested their cases and the jury began deliberating the case on Thursday.

After several hours of deliberations, the jury convicted Hendrix on one of the misdemeanor disorderly conduct accounts and acquitted her of the other. 

Hendrix was originally charged with three counts of disorderly conduct in the case last August. The Olmsted County Attorney's Office later filed an amended criminal complaint in the case that resulted in the dropping of one of the misdemeanor counts. 

Complaint Describes Circumstances That Led to Video

The criminal complaint lists events that led up to the video, which attracted millions of views on social media as well as traditional media outlets worldwide. 

The court document says the video shows Hendrix being confronted about chasing after an 8-year-old boy, who is described as "profoundly and visibly autistic," after he had taken an applesauce pouch from a diaper bag belonging to Hendrix.

After the child climbed onto a piece of playground equipment, Hendrix was accused of repeatedly addressing the boy using a racial slur as she snatched the applesauce pouch out of his hand.

A man who witnessed the encounter then began recording video and confronted Hendrix, who is seen on the video using the same slur against the man with the cell phone.

Hendrix was sentenced to a 90-day stayed jail sentence, fined $1,000 and ordered to complete 200 hours of community service The standard punishment for a misdemeanor conviction in Minnesota is up to 90 days in jail and a fine as high as $1,000.
