State Representative Duane Sauke joined me on 'Rochester’s Good Morning' Friday and we began the segment talking about the issuance of driver’s licenses.

As you may know, there’s a measure to allow Minnesotans to get driver’s licenses that comply with federal Real ID standards and this will get its first hearing in the Minnesota Senate on Tuesday.

Minnesota is one of the few states that do not have “Real ID,” something we’re going to have to have soon if we want to hop on a plane or go into a federal building.

A listener wanted to know the Representative’s stance on Governor Dayton’s statement that he is in favor of allowing the state to issue driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants.

Here’s what Representative Sauke had to say..

Listener calls were not in agreement, saying (among other things), "why should we give a license to someone who shouldn't even be here!"  As it stands right now, undocumented immigrants cannot get a Minnesota driver's license.

Senator Dave Senjem will join me on Monday morning 8:15 to 8:30 a.m.  I'll get his thoughts and take your calls on that and other items on KROC-AM.
