Red wing, MN (KROC-AM News) - A recent skiing accident in southeastern Minnesota claimed the life of a Minneapolis man.

The deadly incident occurred at Welch Village near Red Wing on February 1. The Minnesota Star Tribune reported that the Red Wing Fire Department responded to the scene that evening after a skier crashed into a lift tower. Life-saving measures were attempted, but the skier was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was identified as 25-year-old Walker Phenix Nelson.

Management at Welch Village issued a statement following the tragedy that read:

“We are grateful to our ski patrol, mountain staff, and emergency services for their swift response. We ask for your continued prayers and support for the skier’s family.”
