Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Public safety officials have been busy responding to numerous traffic crashes and mishaps in southeast Minnesota.

The mix of rain, freezing drizzle and light snow that fell across the region Wednesday night and Thursday has created slippery driving conditions in some areas and motorists are being urged to use caution.

Conditions should improve as temperatures rise above freezing.

The Minnesota State Patrol says its troopers responded to nearly 160 crashes on Wednesday. It also reports one of its squads was rear-ended in Detroit Lakes but no injuries were reported.

The most serious crash happened around 8:30 am Wednedsay on a slippery road near Hector in south-central Minnesota.

The State Patrol says a semi-truck collided with an approaching car, seriously injuring its driver. The accident report indicates 35-year-old Jose Garza of Olivia was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
