It looks like the cold weather the Rochester area experienced last month affected local homebuilders.

They took out just 18 permits for new single family homes during November, the lowest monthly total since February.

But the number was enough to increase the running total for the year to 334 - the highest annual figure since 2007.

New commercial construction also slowed during November. One of the large permits approved during the month was for the footings for the new Hy-Vee store, valued at $1 million.

So far this year, the city has approved 2200 permits for new building projects and the valuation total is approaching $350 million.
