Soldiers Field & Silver Lake Parks Master Plans Could be Adopted
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester Park Board has a big meeting scheduled for this afternoon.
The board will be presented with revised proposals for the Soldiers Field Memorial Park Master Plan and the Silver Lake Park Master Plan. It's possible, both proposals could be approved during the meeting, which will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Mayo Civic Center.
“We look forward to sharing the proposed master plans with the Park Board for their considered adoption. These two community parks play a vital role in the Parks & Recreation system and we know are cherished and well visited by our residents and visitors. We appreciate the thousands of community members and visitors that took the time to engage in the many opportunities provided to share feedback as these plans were developed. Our commitment to bringing the community into the planning brought a variety of voices to the decision-making process.” highlights Paul Widman, Director of Parks & Recreation.
Widman says, since the Soldiers Field plan was presented to the City Council last month, the Park and Recreation Department "we have heard the affirmation on a desire to dee Soldiers Field Memorial Golf Course retained as an 18-hole course. The near-term proposal includes new and expanded aquatics facilities, enhancements to the east playground, a new picnic shelter, and parking on the west side. It also calls for two new basketball courts and expanded trail connections.
The first phase of the proposed Silver Lake plan calls for unspecified improvements to the pool area, improvements to the West Shelter picnic area, expansion of the skate park, and enhancing playground experiences while acknowledging the park's history. The plan for the future phases includes a small dog park, additional water play, picnic, and art offerings, along with an expansion of the trail system and vegetation management.
