Southeast Minnesota Man Severely Hurt in Van-Semi Crash
Red Wing, MN (KROC-AM News)- Officials say a southeast Minnesota man suffered severe injuries in a Goodhue County crash Thursday afternoon.
The State Patrol responded to the collision at the intersection of Hwy. 61 and Aspen Ave. in Red Wing.
It was reported shortly after noon on Thursday.
The state crash report indicates the semi was traveling in the southbound lane of Hwy. 61 while the van was waiting for the stoplight to change in the northbound lane of Aspen Ave. The two vehicles then collided in the intersection.
The report identifies the van driver as 29-year-old Derrek Kenneth Allen of Red Wing. He was taken from the crash scene to Mayo Clinic in Red Wing with what are being described as life-threatening injuries.
The truck driver, identified as 58-year-old Ronald Wesley Lewis of St. Louis Park, was not hurt. The report says both drivers were buckled up and that alcohol was not involved in the crash.
The Red Wing Police Department, Red Wing Fire Department, Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service and the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the crash.
