Southeast Minnesota Prep Football Teams Punch Tickets to State
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Six prep football teams from southeast Minnesota have punched their tickets to the State Tournament.
Six Section 1 championship games happened across the area Friday night. The winning teams will play in the State Quarterfinals at regional sites on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Below are the results from Friday night's Section 1 Championship games for 9-Player, Class A, Class 2A, Class 3A, Class 4A and Class 5A
9-Player
The Kingsland Knights have kept their magical and undefeated season rolling. It culminated with a 44-14 win in the Section Final against Spring Grove in Austin Friday night.
The Knights will face Section 3 champions Hill-Beaver Creek in the State Quarterfinal. The game is taking place at Albert Lea High School and is set to kickoff at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Class 1A
The Fillmore Central Falcons have made it back-to-back section titles. Two explosive plays from Wide Receiver Jayce Kiehne and a stingy defensive effort lifted the Falcons to a 14-0 win over Kenyon-Wanamingo at the Rochester Regional Stadium.
For the second straight season the Falcons will head to Jordan for the State Quarterfinal. They'll face Section 3 champion Springfield at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
Class 2A
The Caledonia Warriors ended a dream season for the Dover-Eyota Eagles, reclaiming the section title with a 35-20 victory in Winona Friday night.
The Warriors will face Section 3 champion Jackson County Central on Thursday. The game kicks off from Rochester Mayo High School at 7 p.m.
Class 3A
The Stewartville Tigers also clinched back-to-back trips to the State Tournament Friday night. They took down the #2 Rochester-Lourdes 34-7 in the second meeting this season between the two teams at Kasson-Mantorville High School.
The Tigers will go from one rematch to another, playing the Section 3 champion Waseca in Hastings on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. The Tigers opened the 2023 season with a one-score victory in Waseca.
Class 4A
The Byron Bears avenged an earlier loss to Kasson-Mantorville to punch their ticket to the State Tournament. Byron came back in the second half to top the KoMets 17-14 at Mayo High School Friday night.
The Bears will face Section 3 champion Hill Murray in the State Quarterfinal. The game kicks off Thursday at 6 p.m. from Eastview High School in Apple Valley.
Class 5A
The Owatonna Huskies christened their new stadium by earning a trip back to the State Tournament. They beat #2 Northfield 35-6 on Friday night.
The Huskies will head to Woodbury for a clash with Section 3 champion St. Thomas Academy. The State Quarterfinal kicks off at noon on Saturday, Nov. 11.
