Southern Minnesota Mayor Facing Theft, Embezzlement Charges
Good Thunder, MN (KROC-AM News)- The mayor of a small town near Mankato is behind bars and is facing charges for embezzling public funds.
A news release from the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office says the Minnesota Auditor’s Office informed investigators of incidents of financial conflicts of interest concerning Good Thunder Mayor Robert Anderson. Deputies executed a search warrant at Anderson’s home on Wednesday and seized what were described as relevant documents.
The seizure of documents led to Anderson being charged with embezzlement, two theft-related counts and three counts of violating the contact of a public official. The charges stem from a 2021 city property purchase in which Anderson’s business won a contract without city council approval, prosecutors say.
Court records also accuse him of benefiting from contracts related to city sidewalk repairs. Good Thunder officials have not commented on the case.
Anderson remains in custody at the Blue Earth County Jail as of Friday morning. The investigation is ongoing.
