There were two cases of "chronic wasting disease" in the November deer hunt in southeastern Minnesota. Nothing has been found since, but as a precaution, the D-N-R has set up a special hunt from 12/31-1/16 in the suspected area.

Conservation officer Phil George was on Rochester's Good Morning with Rich and KD last Friday with all the details of how you can be involved.

According to Phil, residents and non-residents may purchase permits now allowing them to participate in the special hunt from any D-N-R license agent. A disease management permit is not needed if a hunter has an unfilled 2016 deer license valid anywhere in Minnesota. An unfilled license or disease management permit is required for every deer harvested.

Check out the Minnesota D-N-R website for the map and other details.
