Stewartville, MN (KROC-AM News) - A dog found dead in Stewartville last week was not strangled as the owner had first suspected.

The 8-month-old Shorkie wandered away from its home last Thursday night and was found dead an hour later at the end of a neighbor’s driveway.

Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Scott Behrns says there was no apparent sign it had been run over or any other trauma. He says the owner paid for a necropsy and the veterinary school at the University of Minnesota conducted the tests. Behrns says the results of the examination were consistent with injuries caused by a motor vehicle and there was no sign of blunt force trauma.

The woman who reported the incident said the dog named Gizmo was a therapy dog for her 13-year-old son. The family lives in the 100 block of 23rd St NW.
