Suspect Arrested After Woman Shot in Southern Minnesota Gunfight
Mankato, MN (KROC-AM News) - A woman is being treated for gunshot wounds suffered in what authorities say was a possibly drug-related shootout in Mankato on Tuesday.
The Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office says deputies were dispatched to a parking lot to investigate reports concerning broken glass and a handgun. A news release says the deputies were notified a short time later that a woman had arrived at the Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital in Mankato with an apparent gunshot wound.
The statement says investigators reviewed security camera videos that showed two people firing handguns at each other next to a vehicle in the parking lot. The Sheriff's Office says it is believed the wounded woman was present during the shooting, but was not an active participant.
One person has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting. The news release says deputies located 18-year-old Abdulkadir Fakhi Mohidin of Moorhead at a nearby residence. It also indicates that his appearance is consistent with one of the shooters captured by the video recording.
According to the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office, suspected marijuana was located near the glass and handgun in the parking lot where the shooting occurred.
At the last report, the gunshot victim remains hospitalized with what was described as a non-life threatening injury.
