Suspects in Minnesota Shoplifting Fatally Crash Stolen Vehicle
Brooklyn Park, MN (KROC-AM News)- A woman is dead and a man is in custody in connection to a stolen vehicle crash in the Twin Cities.
The Brooklyn Park Police Department says officers were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash around 12:30 p.m. Sunday. 911 callers reported seeing a male flee the vehicle on foot towards a nearby Walmart store.
First responders found the vehicle upside down in a culvert. A tow truck partially lifted the vehicle and revealed a female occupant who was described as “obviously deceased.”
Officers were also dispatched to the nearby Walmart where they located and arrested the male subject on active arrest warrants. He was taken into jail after being treated at a hospital for minor injuries. His name has not been released and additional charges are possible pending the outcome of the investigation, the news release says.
Further investigation revealed the man and woman who were inside of the wrecked vehicle were suspected of carrying out shoplifting at an auto parts store in Osseo. Officials say the vehicle and male suspect taken into custody at the Walmart matched the description of the alleged Osseo shoplifters.
Investigators also learned the vehicle the man and woman were in was reported stolen out of Minneapolis, according to the news release. Witnesses reported the woman was driving the vehicle and that the man was riding in the passenger seat.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the woman and determine her cause of death. The deadly crash is under investigation.
