Authorities announced the death investigation through a news release published on Tuesday. 

Officers first encountered the man over the weekend. He was pronounced dead earlier this week.

Red Wing Police Launch Investigation into Suspicious Death of 41-Year-Old Man

Red Wing police have identified the deceased person as 41-year-old Matthew Anthony Thimmesch

The news release says officers and firefighters responded to the report of an unconscious male in the 200 block of East 5th St. in Red Wing shortly before 6:30 on the morning of Friday, May 30.

He was transported from the scene to a hospital for medical care. Police then learned that Thimmesch died in the hospital around 10:30 Monday morning. 

The Red Wing Police Department is describing the case as a suspicious death. Details surrounding Thimmesch’s death have not been released but police are saying there is not a known threat to the public. 

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting Red Wing Police with the death investigation. The news release does not whether or not investigators have identified a suspect/suspects or person/persons of interest.
