Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Rochester residents are being reminded of the dangers of slick sidewalks as a result of the recent widespread refreeze the city has experienced.

The city has received an increased number of reports involving “ trips, slips, and falls due to icy conditions on sidewalks.”

In most cases, it is the property owner’s responsibility to maintain a safe and passable sidewalk.

In response to the situation, the city is offering access to a salt/sand mixture.

Two sites have been set up: behind the Fiesta Café in the Northbrook Shopping Center, and at the end of 1st Ave SW next to the YMCA. Residents are asked to take no more than one bucket of the mixture.

Residents must bring their own supplies as buckets/bags and shovels are not provided by the city.
