Crews from the US Army Corps of Engineers were back on the ice covering Lake Pepin on Wednesday to take another round of measurements. They found the ice remains the thickest ever recorded on the lake. The thickest ice, measured at 32-inches, was found a couple miles north of Wabasha at the foot of Lake Pepin. The average thickness of the ice is close to 24-inches, and in many areas the ice is thicker than it was when the first round of measurements were taken on February 27th.
