Minnesotans are feeling the bite in their budgets lately as inflation has increased the cost of many items we use every day. So if your grocery shopping budget is being strained, you'll want to avoid these seven stores, because they're the Minnesota locations of the most expensive grocery chain in the country.

LOOK: I Had No Idea It's Not Just Inflation Driving Up Minnesota Grocery Prices

Ever since the pandemic, food prices seem to be fairly high across the U.S. and Minnesota is no exception. And if you're living paycheck to paycheck, finding affordable, high-quality food in the  Land of 10,000 Lakes can sometimes be a real challenge.

This Yahoo Finance story said that food prices in the United States have risen significantly over the past few years due to high inflation. For instance, let's take a look at egg prices. Yahoo says they're some of the worst hit, with the average price soaring 54 percent from late 2020 to early 2024. So if a dozen eggs cost you $2 then, that same dozen eggs would now average around $3.08.

That's why this survey from Delish can be so helpful. They just put together a list of the grocery stores across the country where prices on everyday items are often higher than in some other stores Now, to be fair, Delish notes that there are several reasons why this could be the case:

There are many factors that contribute to grocery store prices. The supply chain (most recently seen with last year’s egg-gate), an area’s cost of living, ingredient quality, and other supermarket competitors are just some of the variables that can impact your grocery bill.

So just WHICH grocery store, with seven locations here in Minnesota, is one of the Most Overpriced in America? That would be Whole Foods Market. This high-end grocery store, which is often shown on culinary shows like Top Chef, is sometimes sarcastically referred to as 'Whole Paycheck' because their prices are high enough that shopping there will cost your entire check. (Not really, of course.)

Delish noted that Amazon bought Whole Foods in 2017, 'which led to price decreases, but Whole Foods still remains financially inaccessible to many shoppers. And now, with the rising cost of living, the store’s exclusivity is even more blatant,' Delish said.
