Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Thieves who broke into a vacant Rochester building not only made off with a heater - they left the natural gas supply open.

Police Capt. Casey Moilanen says officers were called to the former Whiskey Bones bar in the 3800 block of North Broadway Thursday after firefighters responded to a call about a natural gas smell.

It was discovered the thieves had stolen a 750,000 BTU Heat Wagon device and apparently didn’t bother turning off the gas supply before or after they disconnected the heater.

Moilanen says it’s not known how long the gas had been filling the building. He says the owner of the property last visited the site March 28th.
