Third Suspect in Rochester Robbery Case Faces Deportation
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester Police have made a third arrest in connection with a recent drug deal turned robbery. Captain John Sherwin says 22-year-old Batri Ismail was apprehended yesterday and booked into the Olmsted County Jail on suspicion of first-degree aggravated robbery.
Two other Rochester residents, 20-year-old John Lockett and 20-year-old Ashley Heckman, were arraigned earlier this week in the same charge for their alleged involvement in robbing a Winona man of cash and his cell phone. The victim and a Winona woman told police they had gone to a residence at the Parkside mobile home park off Marion Road Southeast on August 6th to purchase some marijuana after arranging the meeting through a social media app.
After they arrived, the man was assaulted and robbed by two men and a woman. One of the men allegedly pointed a gun at the victim, who fought back and during the struggle the handgun discharged and fired a bullet into the floor of a mobile home.
Captain Sherwin says it’s unlikely Ismail will ever stand trial in the case. He says the young man is already under a deportation hold from the federal Immigration Customs Enforcement agency and is expected to be sent to Somalia in the near future.
