Minnesota has a ton of these cozy, close-knit communities, each with its own unique vibe. And while we’d argue that several of them could take the crown, only one can be named the best of the best.

In Iowa, the small town of Winterset was selected. Best known for its picture-perfect historic covered bridges - a dream for photographers and history lovers alike, especially during the town’s annual Covered Bridge Festival every October.

But Winterset isn’t just about bridges. It’s also the birthplace of John Wayne, with a museum dedicated to the legendary actor making it a great stop for movie fans and anyone who loves a bit of Americana.

In Wisconsin, the pick was New Glarus, famous not just for its beer but also its nickname “America’s Little Switzerland” with its alpine-style buildings, traditional cheese and chocolate shops, this town is practically a European vacation without the airfare.
