Three More Legionnaires Disease Cases Connected to Hopkins

HOPKINS, Minn. (AP) — An outbreak of Legionnaires' disease is growing in Hopkins.

The Minnesota Department of Health said Tuesday it has confirmed three additional cases of the disease in the Minneapolis suburb, bringing the total to 20.

Health officials say all of the cases, including the new ones, involve people who live, work or were in a small part of Hopkins during the 10 days before they became ill.

The 20 cases include one death. Sixteen of the 20 people were or are hospitalized.

Legionnaires' disease is a bacterial infection that people get from inhaling contaminated mist or vapor. It is not spread person-to-person. The state Health Department continues to investigate potential sources of the outbreak.
