Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Partaking in Border-to-Border Speeding Crackdown Amid Deadly Crash Spike

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Motorists hitting the road for the 4th of July holiday and for the rest of the Summer can expect some extra company on the roads in southern Minnesota.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office has announced that its deputies are once again participating in a Boarder-to-Boarder Speed Saturation crackdown.

It gets started on Wednesday and runs through Labor Day. It's the 10th year of the enforcement effort.

Traffic Enforcement Effort Underway in Olmsted County & Southern MN Amid 100 Deadliest Days

Independence Day travel falls within the so-called 100 deadliest days on Minnesota roads, a period of time when the state typically sees an uptick of traffic deaths. 

The Border-to-Border Saturation will be focused on Hwys. 14, 19 and 60. 

111 lives were lost in crashes between Memorial Day and Labor Day in Minnesota last year. 31 of those crashes were speed related, according to the sheriff’s office. 

Olmsted County Sees Spike in Traffic Deaths

The enforcement effort comes amid a spike of traffic fatalities in Olmsted County this year. 

So far 10 people have died in traffic crashes in the county this year. Nine people were killed in Olmsted County crashes all of last year. 

“Our goal is that every driver operates their vehicle safely, drives the posted speed limit and adjusts their speed to the conditions. But if drivers do not, we will take appropriate action to keep this a safe summer on our roadways for everyone. Our deepest concern is your safety and saving lives,” a news release issued by the sheriff’s office says.
