8:23 a.m. today the Faribault Police and Faribault Fire Departments were dispatched to a train derailment in the 2000 block of Kennedy Drive in northwest Faribault.

On arrival, officers observed "several railroad cars off the tracks."

When KDHL arrived a railroad representative there told me three cars landed on their sides, there was no spillage and the cars contained vegetables.

Before KDHL left the scene a Faribault Foods representative came to the location and was taking a video wondering if the vegetables might be theirs.

A Police Department Media Release states, "Emergency responders and emergency managers will remain in the area throughout the morning to work with the railroad in returning the cars to service with minimal disruption."

They noted there is no immediate traffic impact but the City trail to the east of Batchelder Park is closed while the cars are being returned to the tracks.

The railroad representative speculated it would possibly be, "a few days" before everything was back to normal.

KDHL took several photos. The railroad would not allow us to go beyond the yellow police line tape that had been put into place behind Batchelder Park where the railroad cars are located.
