Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) -  The snow arrived in the Rochester area in the early afternoon and quickly covered roads and reduced visibility.

The National Weather Service says southeastern Minnesota is expected to see snow, heavy at times, through the afternoon and into the evening. At this point, the snowfall totals are expected to be in the 4 to 7-inch range in southeastern Minnesota, while higher amounts are possible to the north and west. Forecasters say some freezing precipitation could develop tonight and also impact travel conditions.

Reduced visibility from falling snow and increasing winds will also be a factor. The National Weather Service is predicting wind gusts could reach through 35 to 40 miles per hour range in many areas and gusts above 45 miles per hour are possible in south-central and western Minnesota through much of the day on Saturday.

Nearly the entire State of Minnesota is under winter storm warnings, while blizzard warnings have been posted west of Mankato. The storm warning for the Rochester area is expected to remain in effect through 6 PM Saturday.
