Two international airlines have now said they are packing up their pretzels and flying away from Minnesota skies later this year, grounding routes and forcing travelers heading to this European destination to get creative.

It wasn't all that long ago this major international airline added non-stop service to Minnesota, but it announced last fall that it is leaving our fair state-- and now comes word that one of its main European competitors is also leaving the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

Our own Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) is the largest airport in the North Star State. So it's no surprise that a LOT of Minnesotans (and Iowans and Wisconsinites and others) head through the TSA checkpoints at MSP each year when traveling across the country and overseas.

MSP says airlines served 156 nonstop destinations from the North Star State in 2023, up from 145 destinations in 2022. And, of course, MSP also noted that it was once again named the best airport in North America for the third year in a row, and for the seventh time in the last eight years.

Did you know that 18 different airlines fly in and out of MSP? Take a look at this list:

+ Aer Lingus
+ Air Canada
+ AirFrance
+ Alaska Airlines
+ Allegiant Airlines
+ American Airlines
+ Condor Airlines
+ Delta Air Lines
+ Denver Air
+ Frontier Airlines
+ Icelandair
+ KLM Airlines
+ Lufthansa Airlines
+ Spirit Airlines
+ Southwest Airlines
+ Sun Country Airlines
+ United Airlines
+ WestJet

However, two of the names on that list will soon be going away, because as we heard last fall, Lufthansa Airlines is ending non-stop service from Minneapolis to Frankfurt, Germany this spring. Flights on that route debuted last June, but are now set to go away this spring. That's the word from the travel site, The Points Guy, who said the German-based airline would discontinue offering that route as of April 29th.

And, now just last week, the travel site Thrifty Traveler reported that Condor Airlines is dropping six different seasonal international routes from North America, including Baltimore, Halifax, Phoenix, San Antonio, Edmonton and MSP Airport here in Minnesota. Those flights had been scheduled to run from May through September, but thanks to a German court ruling, have now apparently been cut as well.

However, you *will* still be able to fly direct from Minnesota to Germany this year, as The Points Guy said Lufthansa will 'hand the route over to its low-cost subsidiary Discover Airlines for the foreseeable future,' with those routes set to take flight from Minnesota starting on May 2nd.
