Two Fatal Crashes in Minnesota Today – Young Child Among Victims
Elk River, MN (KROC-AM News) - A young child was the victim of a fatal crash that occurred this morning in central Minnesota.
The State Patrol says the 8-year-old boy was a passenger in a car that collided with an SUV at an intersection along Highway 169 near Elk River. The deadly collision was reported shortly after 8 AM.
The crash report states the driver of the car, 43-year-old Erin Cooney of Elk River, was attempting to cross Highway 169 when the collision occurred with the northbound SUV. She was transported to a hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.
The State Patrol says the driver of the SUV also suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was identified as 38-year-old Ryan McGrath of New Hope and refused transport to the hospital.
The name of the young victim has not been released.

Cottage Grove, MN (KROC-AM News) - The other fatal crash was reported just after midnight on the east side of the Twin Cities.
The State Patrol says the victim was a passenger in the car that was traveling north on Highway 61 near Hastings when the driver lost control and the vehicle crashed in the median. The deceased passenger was a woman from El Salvador. Her name has not been released.
The State Patrol identified the driver as 35-year-old Isai Huezo of St. Paul. He was not injured. The crash report also indicates that alcohol was not involved.
