Two Fatal Wrecks to Start the Holiday Weekend
Undated (KROC AM News) - The holiday weekend is getting off to a deadly start in Minnesota with at least two fatal traffic accidents reported on Friday.
A slick road may have played a role in one of the wrecks near Two Harbors in northeast Minnesota.
The head-on wreck happened Friday morning on Highway 61. Killed was 39-year-old Jason Wilkes of Two Harbors. The State Patrol says he was not wearing a seatbelt but it’s not known if he was ejected. His car collided with a pickup truck driven by 53-year-old Eric Moschet of Eden Prairie, who suffered non-life threatening injuries. The road condition was described as snow and ice-covered.
Another man was killed in a crash near Mora Friday night.
The State Patrol says a car driven by a 17-year-old female turned in front of an oncoming pickup truck around 9:00 PM. The teen driver - who has not been identified - was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries. Her passenger - 22-year-old John Armstrong of Mora - suffered fatal injuries. The State Patrol says he was not wearing a seatbelt. The truck was driven by 16-year-old Kaleb Swenson of Ogilvie. He and his passenger - 15-year-old Genevieve Woods of Mora - were not hurt.
