Two Minnesota Men Indicted For Online Romance Fraud Schemes
Minneapolis, Mn (KROC-AM News) - Two Minnesota men have been indicted on federal charges in connection with online romance fraud schemes
42-year-old Solomon Wilfred of Coon Rapids and 36-year-old Dodzi Kordorwu of Brooklyn Park are named in separate indictments charging each of the men with mail fraud. Wilfred is facing seven counts of the crime, while Kordorwu was indicted on eight charges.
According to the indictments, the two men are accused of knowingly and intentionally participating in front schemes that targeted primarily elderly victims. Prosecutors say the victims would be contacted through email or online social media by men seeking romantic connections. Once a relationship was established, the victim would be introduced to other people posing as government officials, diplomats, and even law enforcement officers to further gain their trust before the scammer would request money or valuables.
It is alleged Kordorwu received more than $2.3 million from 90 separate victims between May 2018 and June of last year. Wilfred is accused of collecting more than $1.2 million in fraud proceeds between June 2020 and March 2021.
