Two Young Minnesotans Drown in Wisconsin Lake

Spooner, WI (KROC-AM News)- Two young Minnesotans lost their lives in apparent drownings in western Wisconsin over the weekend.

A news release issued Monday from the Brunette County Sheriff’s Office says dispatchers received multiple 911 calls regarding two missing swimmers shortly after 5 p.m. Friday. The missing swimmer reports came from Lipsett Lake, which is about 10 miles northwest of Spooner, WI. 

The news release says multiple agencies responded to the lake and deployed air and water drones, underwater radar, boats and divers. The emergency crews discovered the bodies of the swimmers at an undisclosed time in about 15-20 feet of water. 

Officials have identified the victims of the apparent drowning as Grace Rhine and Kyree Schaw. First responders administered life-saving measures but both of the swimmers were pronounced dead at the scene. 

They were both 18-year-olds from Blaine. A third individual, whose name has not been disclosed, was transported to the Emergency Room in Spooner and was later released. 

Officials say strong winds and choppy waters are believed to have contributed to the drownings. The Wisconsin DNR is investigating the deadly incident.
