U of M Looking for New Women’s Hoops Coach
Minneapolis, MN (AP) - University of Minnesota women's basketball coach Marlene Stollings is leaving to take over the program at Texas Tech.
Minnesota athletics director Mark Coyle confirmed Stollings' departure on Monday. Coyle says Minnesota already has begun identifying replacement candidates.
Stollings led the Gophers' program for four seasons. This past season, the Gophers reached the second round of the NCAA tournament, losing to Oregon. The Gophers finished 24-9 after tying for third in the Big Ten regular season and picking up the program's first NCAA tournament win since 2009.
It was the second time during Stollings' tenure that the Gophers reached the NCAA tournament. She leaves with an 82-47 overall record with the Gophers and a 38-30 Big Ten record.
Stollings replaces Candi Whitaker, who was fired at Texas Tech in January.
