The Hayfield Vikings are 31-0 yet they received the #5 seed when coaches involved in the tournament seeded the teams earlier today.

Coaches are not asked to seed themselves but all the other teams in the tournament.  I've said for years they should have an independent panel seed the teams because the coaches involved are humans and might not seed with their head but rather their heart.

The Vikings will play #4 seed Cass Lake-Bena (28-2) at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Maturi Pavilion on the University of Minnesota Campus.

Mountain Iron-Buhl with 3 losses is the top seed.  They rolled throughout their Section with running time in every game.  Their three losses were to Class 2A and 3A top rated teams.

#2 seed goes to Mayer Lutheran with 4 losses.  I suppose the argument was they came out of a tougher section but a team doesn't have control over how strong their section is.

The QRF has Hayfield #3 in Class A.  Mountain Iron-Buhl is #1, Mayer Lutheran #2.  Cass Lake-Bena #4 followed by Sleepy Eye-St. Mary's (defeated by Mayer Lutheran in Section 2A Championship).

Mountain Iron-Buhl (27-3) receives a very tough random draw in Minneota (26-4) right out of the gate at 11:00 a.m. Thursday.

#2 seed Mayer Lutheran opens with Nevis (19-8) and the #25 best QRF.

#3 seed Hancock (27-1) plays Nevis (19-8) in the opening round at 5:00 p.m.  The Owls have the 6th best QRF.

The 3:00 p.m. Class A Quarterfinals game features #2 seed Mayer Lutheran (26-4) going up against United Christian Academy (23-4)

KDHL Radio, 920 AM, 97.9 FM and worldwide on the FREE KDHL app will be providing coverage of the Hayfield Vikings games at the State Tournament.
