Unfilled Jobs Remain Plentiful in Rochester Area
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The labor market in the Rochester area is not quite as tight as it was a year ago but unemployment remained extremely low last month.
The unemployment rate for Olmsted County was just 2.5-percent in August. It was the second straight month the rate has dropped by 2-tenths of a point, but it remained almost a half-point above the jobless rate from August 2018. Despite the increase from a year ago, the rate was still low enough to be tied with August 2000 for the third-lowest unemployment rate in the Rochester area for the month of August in the past 20-years.
The latest jobs report from the state shows Fillmore and Houston Counties were tied with Olmsted County for having the lowest jobless rate in the region last month. Freeborn and Winona Counties had the highest rates at just 3-percent.
