Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The State Patrol has released additional information concerning an injury crash that occurred just north of Rochester this morning.

It occurred around 11:45 AM on Highway 63(75th Street Northeast) just west of the bridge over the Zumbro River. The State Patrol says a van smashed into the back of a garbage truck that had stopped in the eastbound lane while the driver waited to make a left turn into a driveway.

Reports from the scene indicated the driver of the van, 30-year-old Matthew Meyer of Cedar Falls Iowa, was found pinned under the back of the garbage truck and had to be extricated by Rochester firefighters. After he was removed from the wreckage, Myers was transported to St. Mary Hospital with what the State Patrol described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The State Patrol says 69-year-old Robert Batzel of Rochester was driving the garbage truck. He was not injured.

A driver appears to have been injured following a two-vehicle crash that occurred near Rochester Thursday. 

Limited information is available, however emergency responder communications indicate first responders were called to the report of a vehicle rear-ending a large truck. 

The collision was reported around 11:48 a.m. along 75th St. in rural northern Rochester.

The van driver, described by an off-duty Oronoco First Responder as a 30-year-old man, was reported to have been pinned underneath the back of a large truck.

The van was freed just under 30 minutes after emergency responders arrived at the scene. The man was flown to St. Mary’s Hospital.

The Rochester Fire Department was among agencies to respond to the collision. The van driver's condition is unavailable at this time.
