Victim of Tragic Southern Minnesota Roadside Incident Identified

Hastings, MN (KROC-AM News) - Authorities have released the name of the man who was killed on Wednesday while trying to remove the carcass of a deer from a southeastern Minnesota highway.

The Dakota County Sheriff's Office reported that the victim was driving a vehicle that collided with a deer on Dakota County Road 46 just south of Hastings around 6:30 AM on Wednesday. As he was attempting to move the deer off the roadway, he was struck by another vehicle.

A news release says the deadly incident was witnessed by another motorist who had pulled to the side of the roadway with the intent to assist in removing the deer from the lane of traffic.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office today identified the deceased motorist as 69-year-old Ricky Edstrom of Hastings. The cause of his death was listed as multiple blunt force injuries due to a pedestrian versus vehicle collision.

The Dakota County Sheriff's Office did not release the name of the motorist driving the vehicle that struck Edstrom. A news release indicated he was not injured and cooperated with the investigation.
