Nashville (Learfield News Service) -The Minnesota Vikings added a tight end, a running back and eight more picks Friday night in the second and third rounds of the NFL Draft.

The Purple selected tight end Irv Smith,Jr from Alabama with the 50th overall pick. Smith caught 44 passes for 710 yards and seven touchdowns for the Crimson Tide last season. He's the son of former NFL and Saints tight end Irv Smith.

Vikings GM Rick Spielman made four trades in the third round and landed eight more picks and Boise State running back Alexander Mattison with the 102nd overall selection. Mattison rushed for 1,415 yards and 17 touchdowns for the Broncos in 2018 and was named to the All-Mountain West First Team.

Rounds four through seven of the draft wrap up Saturday. Minnesota has a total of nine more picks: the 120th overall in the fourth round, 159th in the fifth, four sixth rounders, and three in the seventh round.
