Vikings Sign Terrance Newman to One Year Deal

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings and veteran cornerback Terence Newman have agreed to terms on a one-year contract, reuniting him with coach Mike Zimmer.

The Vikings announced the deal Friday. Newman will play again for Zimmer, who was his defensive coordinator for four seasons in Dallas and two in Cincinnati.

Newman played the last three years for the Bengals after nine with the Cowboys, who drafted him with the fifth overall pick out of Kansas State in 2003.

Newman has 37 career interceptions, the third-most among active players in the NFL. The production and stability at cornerback for the Vikings was better last season, but that's still a position where they could use more depth with Xavier Rhodes, Captain Munnerlyn and Josh Robinson their leading returning players.
