Voice of the Gophers is Minnesota’s Top Sportscaster

SALISBURY, N.C. - The voice of Golden Gopher football and men’s basketball, play-by-play announcer Mike Grimm has been recognized as the 2013 Minnesota Sportscaster of the Year.

The award was announced Thursday by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.

Grimm is currently in his eighth year as the radio voice of the Gopher basketball team. He also recently completed his third season as the voice of Gopher football radio broadcasts.

This is the fourth time that Grimm has been recognized with the award, earning the honor in 2009 and 2010 while winning the Iowa Sportscaster of the Year nod in 1999. Beyond his work with the Gophers, Grimm is also the full-time Sports Director at the statewide Minnesota News Network, where his award-winning sports updates are heard on 50 stations across the state.

Grimm, along with the other winners, will be honored at the annual NSSA Awards Weekend this June in Salisbury, N.C.
